02/11/24 – Ed was great teaching our 5-year old, Nathan to ice skate. He taught him the basics really helped build his confidence on the ice. My son had fun during lessons and always looked forward to skating. We would recommed Ed! – GABBY C.
I had skated a bit all my life, but wasn’t comfortable on the ice in the way I wanted to be. I saw Ed coaching kids and asked him if he could coach me. He is laid back and easy to work with and made me far more relaxed. Ed gave me tips that helped me feel much more at ease on my skates. We did about ten lessons, where I would meet with him and then practice for a few times and then we would meet again. My confidence grew and grew, till I just had to go play hockey. I now play regularly and am having a blast. I would never have had the confidence if it weren’t for Ed. – JAY LIEBOWITZ
As a mom of three little ones, I was looking for an instructor that could get me comfortable on the ice so I could enjoy skating with my kids. Having never ice skated, getting on the ice was intimidating. Ed was patient and encouraging! After my sessions with Ed I am able to confidently skate and help my 5 year old on the ice. I highly recommend Ed for skaters of all ages and abilities! – NICOLE ZUPKA
Ed has always been amazing with my kids, making the whole experience fun and keeping them interested while effortlessly working on their weaknesses and technique. Besides being a great coach Ed has that balance between discipline and fun that turns students into stars… – ANYA TURKER
Your private lessons with our 10-yr old son PLUS your skill and sheer enthusiasm/support launched his now full-time skating passion. We will continue to engage you as a private coach for stick & puck … and HIGHLY RECOMMEND you to others. – GINNA MARTIN
Ed gave lessons to my 3 year old this past winter/spring. He was very patient, encouraging and great with little kids. Lessons were easy to schedule. Hoping to get a few lessons myself this year. I highly recommend Ed for ice skating lessons for all ages. – ALRIONA COSTIGAN
At 25-years old I decided to take up my dream of being able to ice skate. Ed worked on my confidence and balance first, getting more technical as things went on. During the learning process, he can definitely tell when you need to dig in and be aggressive or relax and refine. We made progress on hockey stops, turns, crossovers and overall balance on the blade. I’m very appreciative of my new found joy and skill. – BEN CLARK
I can’t say enough great things about Ed. I met him through a friend at the ice rink and was really impressed with his skating knowledge and ability to translate it into techniques. I quickly took advantage of the opportunity and arranged private lessons for my son, Richey. Once again, his keen eye, patience, skating knowledge and demonstration skills broke down the mechanics of skating into manageable chunks and dramatically improved my son’s skating in just a few lessons. – ABIR ZALOOM
I never learned to skate a kid and never thought I would have good enough reason to learn. Fast forward to five years ago and my, then 6-year-old son, Patrick who is autistic, started learning to skate when he joined a local hockey team for children with special needs. Because I did not know how to skate, I would sit in the stands and watch him slowly improve his ability to stay up on his skates. I could tell that he would need help to move from skating on his own to fully participating in hockey drills. Many of the kids have a parent or coach working one on one with them during the practice and I wished that I could help my son, but the idea of skating seemed like something that was out of reach for a guy pushing 40 years old.
At the beginning of Patrick’s second season with his team, I emailed Ed on a whim to ask about lessons. I wanted to learn how to skate so that I could get on the ice and help him participate in hockey practice. Just about, every weekend for a season I met with Ed at various rinks around the area. His fun approach to teaching an adult to skate made me feel at ease and eliminated any self-consciousness I had about little kids skating circles around me. He taught me everything from how to stay upright on my skates to hockey stops to skating backward and then how to do cross overs (still working on this). His positive and encouraging attitude kept me coming back week after week and I could feel myself improving with each session.
After hitting the ice with Ed consistently from October to March, I was in a position where I could get on the ice with a hockey stick. Of course, Ed was there to help me in this transition. He gave me pointers about skating with a puck, passing, and shooting. It was great to have him guide me as my personal hockey coach. Ed prepared me to be able to get on the ice and help my son participate in his hockey practices. Every Saturday morning for the last three years, I take Patrick, now 11, to hockey practice in Canton, MA. I am able to skate with him and help him complete the drills and participant in scrimmages. It has been such a gift for me to bond with Patrick on the ice There is not a practice that goes by that I do not reflect and say to myself, ‘thank you, Ed’ for teaching me a skill that brings so much boy to me and my son. – DENNIS DOHERTY
We can’t recommend Ed Jacobs highly enough! When our boys wanted to learn to ice skate, we tried “skating school” but found this to be very impersonal and largely ineffective. Ed provides a personal touch along with a huge dose of humor, fun and encouragement. My boys love working with him and have become skilled ice skaters. Although they’re comfortable skating independently now, they still like working with Ed to gain specific skills and techniques. – ALYCE KUKLINSKI
When my son was 8 he asked to play hockey, but he had no idea how to skate. I knew my college friend Shred was teaching skating so I reached out. Every Sunday that summer they met and skated. Ed made it comfortable and easy and my son really enjoyed their time together. My son entered youth hockey that fall. Skating on the A team he was soon moved up a level
because of his skating skills. His skating has been noticed by coaches and parents alike. And now years later my son is a freshman in high school starting on the varsity hockey team. I am convinced that the skating skills my son learned with Ed years ago have been key to success in pursuing his hockey ambitions. – CHRISTOPHER FOLEY (ex-SS Decontrol drummer)
